1976
sparked off the American Bicentennial Celebration. In honor of this
event, Air France held a contest for High School students throughout
the United States. The theme chosen was "Salute America".
Students from around the nation sent in their best entry to be judged.
10 winners were chosen, Marcelle being one of them. She received
her award, winning a week in Paris along with her art teacher, where
she took advantage of the wealth of art to be studied from the Louvre
to Versailles.
Here, you see
the winning painting, "The Minuteman", a painting that
depicts the revolution and the resolve of the minutemen to win the
fight for the new country's freedom, capturing the spirit of '76.
