By Marcelle La Cour

Tonight I cannot sleep.
The air is alive and moving in the darkness.
Petulant and indiscreet,
it tugs at the pale roses glowing in the moonlight,
sends restless fingers searching
through the open windows of my room.

A soft caress, cool and curious
against my skin and then gone.
A door in the back creaks,
opening into the night.
The rustling leaves outside toss and sigh,
their fitful rhythm stirs a forgotten music
from some place hidden within.

Unseen,
Undiscovered,
Trembling on the breezes.
A tremor, a shimmer
escapes into the waltzing shadows,
awaiting a distant dawn.
And in that dawn
I dance
