I   K n o w   W h a t   L o v e   I s

By Marcelle La Cour

I know what love is
and what it is not.
I know what it can be
yet that’s not its present lot.

I know the closeness of the one I’d hold dear.
I know of his boldness,
his refusal to fear
that which could break us,
could make our hearts tear
apart from each other
in a world furrowed with wear.

I know well how to rise
to do battle beside him.
I know how to shred lies
that could hurt and misguide him.

I know how to be wise,
to be there when he needs me
and I know what to give so he continues to see
all the light and the glory
in which we both believe.

I know how to let him
go journey without me
and know he’d return
with the grin that delights me.

I know that our trust
must stay sacred through time
and shine like a beacon
in his eyes and mine.

My faith in him’d hold true
and never would fail
tho’ hardship confound us
with trials and travail.

I know the glow
he’d create deep inside me,
the sheer intense flow
of his gaze from afar or beside me.

I know how to play
subtle games that entice
how to dance through the day,
for the pleasure seen in his eyes.

I know how to touch
where sensation’s delight
rides the high passions
through a sensual night.

I know how to love him
I’ll never deny it.
When false friend’s word lies of him
I damn well will decry it.

To love, above all,
I must choose to admire him
and with passionate devotion
do all to inspire him.

Our joy’s in creation
of our world full of sweet games
and laughing deliberation
of keen wits twined in play.

I know what love is
and what it is not.
and by these words I’ll stand by him
and give him all that I’ve got.
