“This painting was commissioned by my father. An old black and white photo taken in the 1930’s of his mother and himself as an infant was used to create a full size portrait in oils.

Moving from France, they spent several years living in the French area of Alexandria in Egypt during the war, before they moved to the States, therefore the title, “. . .on the Nile".

I wanted to show my grandmother's great love for her child. My love as a mother for my own son made this a very moving painting to execute."
